HMRC App: Two Million New Users in 2024

📲 Download the HMRC app and gain 24/7 access to your tax information, National Insurance, and Child Benefit.

The year 2024 has been the most successful year for the HMRC app, enabling an additional 2 million users to easily check their tax codes, view annual tax summaries, and make or receive secure payments – all with just a few taps.

Since its launch in December 2017, over 7 million people have downloaded and successfully logged into the app to access their tax information.

More and more users are managing their finances and taxes through the HMRC app – the most popular login time is between 09:00 and 09:59. Over the past 12 months, the increased use of the HMRC app has led to:

Over 100 million sessions
More than 2 million new users
£652 million in Self Assessment payments
77% increase in downloads among the 16-25 age group
Consistently ranked No.1 in finance app charts

HMRC encourages anyone who has not yet used the free and secure HMRC app to download it from the App Store or Google Play. The app provides convenient access to personal tax details anytime, anywhere, and allows users to store their National Insurance number in their digital wallet.

📢 Myrtle Lloyd, HMRC’s Director General for Customer Services, stated:
"The HMRC app is a fantastic tool for quickly accessing your National Insurance number, claiming Child Benefit, or paying your Self Assessment tax bill on the go. There are many services available within the app that can save you a phone call and provide quick and easy answers. So why not join the 2 million new users who have downloaded the app this year?"

🚀 New HMRC Promotional Campaign

In November, HMRC launched a promotional campaign aimed at individuals aged 18-34 to encourage them to download the app. You can watch the promotional video on YouTube: "You’re on it".

During a Treasury Select Committee hearing, Jim Harra, First Permanent Secretary and CEO of HMRC, spoke about the recent app promotion:
"We are running a campaign targeted at 18-34-year-olds because they are an important audience for us. At this time of year, many are students taking on Christmas jobs, and we see a spike in calls from this demographic asking for their National Insurance number – which is easily available in the app. We want to encourage them to use the app for this."
